The Splečenský dům Hotel is situated in quiet and pleasant surroundings of municipal quarter of Baťov in Otrokovice. Built in 1936 by the Baťa firm and designed by a world-known architect prof. Ing. Karfík, it has become the most prominent building of Zlín's functionalism.

The Spolecensky dum hotel was opened on 1st May 1936 in the presence of important representatives of the Bata firm and the other representatives of social and cultural life of period. The boss of Bata works, Jan A. Bata wrote in the chronicle of The Spolecensky dum hotel: "May you thrive as a credit to Batov". "May Batov thrive" was young Tom's, Tomas Bata's son, wish. As proof that the Bata firm is connected with Otrokovice, the statue of Tomas Bata was unveiled in the park outside th Spolecensky dum hotel (1994). The Spolecensky dum hotel has been reconstructed several times but all architectural elements and peculiarities of the building have been preserved. The last reconstruction was in the summer 1997 when Otrokovice was stricken with the floods.
